The list of businesses dropping the NRA is growing

No, no, no; Dick’s take is so much bigger than that. Dick’s did not aim at the NRA, Dick’s took DIRECT ACTION, changing their own gun sale policies and calling on politicians to change the laws. (That’s the TL;DR.)

Dick’s Sporting Goods has said:

“We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the
tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the
victims and their loved ones.

But thoughts and prayers are not enough.

We have tremendous respect and admiration for the students organizing
and making their voices heard regarding gun violence in schools and
elsewhere in our country.

We have heard you. The nation has heard you.

We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and
appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are
responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we have to help solve the problem
that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the
lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of
America – our kids.

Following all of the rules and laws, we sold a shotgun to the
Parkland shooter in November of 2017. It was not the gun, nor type of
gun, he used in the shooting. But it could have been. Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens. We believe it’s time to do something about it.

Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following:

  • We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as
modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S
stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from
sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores.
  • We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.
We will no longer sell high capacity magazines.
  • We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.

At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations:

  • Ban assault-style firearms
  • Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
  • Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
  • Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
  • Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms

  • Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks

We hope others join us in this effort to let our kids know that their pleas are being taken seriously. Some will say these steps can’t guarantee tragedies like Parkland
will never happen again. They may be correct – but if common sense
reform is enacted and even one life is saved, it will have been worth
it.

We deeply believe that this country’s most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe.

Sincerely,

Edward W. Stack
Chairman & CEO
DICK’S Sporting Goods”

JESUS??

JESUS????

i had no idea they were so frickin huge

I love them so much because they’re about as sharp as a baseball and their anatomy is ridiculous to the point of them literally being classified as plankton for years because they just sort of get blown around by the ocean and look confused, but because they lay more eggs than ANY OTHER VERTEBRATE IN EXISTENCE, evolution can’t stop them

Why is no big predator coming and gnawing on them?

Their biggest defense is that they’re massive and have super tough skin, but they do get hunted by sharks or sea lions sometimes and they just sort of float there like ‘oh bother’ as it happens

Even funnier, because they eat nothing but jellyfish they’re really low in nutritional value anyway, so they basically survive by being not worth eating because they’re like a big floating rice cracker wrapped in leather.

So basically the only reason natural selection hasn’t taken care if them is because they are the most useless fish

yes, they’ve perfected uselessness to the point of being unstoppable

Data of 2.4 million more Equifax customers leaked

Uncategorized

Equifax, a company that specializes in disseminating unsecured user information, upped its game. Despite having already loosed the personal data of around 143 million people into the wild,
Equifax still felt that they could do better. After much effort,
they’ve managed to pinch off the data of 2.4 million more people for
identity fraud aficionados to leverage. What an amazing achievement!

According to Reuters, despite their zest for massive security breaches, the company has framed its latest efforts with a good deal of humility:

The
company said the latest batch of consumers affected had their names and
driver’s license information stolen, but noted less information was
taken because it did not include home addresses, driver’s license
states, dates of issuances, or expiration dates.

Oh,
you should know that the company sometimes dabbles in providing credit
score information, too. In a statement to the media, Equifax promised
that they’ll be reaching out to their newly affected millions to inform
them of the breach as soon as possible.

#1yrsago Milo Yiannopoulos was taken down by a 16 year old Canadian woman

Uncategorized

mostlysignssomeportents:

“Julia” is a 16-year-old Canadian high school student who “leans right”
on economics and foreign policy, and is generally disgusted with the
conservative movement’s pivot to reactionaries like Milo Yiannopoulos
who trade in “anti-Muslim, anti-feminism, and general bigotry.”

When CPAC announced that Yolo Minneapolis would be headlining their
event, Julia tracked down an old podcast where she’d been disgusted to
hear Yiannopoulos endorsing sexual activity between young boys and
adults. She brought the clip to the  Reagan Battalion blog, whose
proprietors she convinced to feature it. The resulting shitstorm
derailed Yiannopoulos’s budding career, costing him a $250,000
book-deal, his job with Breitbard News, and his slot at CPAC.

Julia hopes that this will serve as a lesson to the conservative
movement, that embracing shock-driven, meanspirited jerky like
Yiannopoulos comes at a very high price: these cynical, empathy-free
manipulators might be fun to listen to, but their adorable sociopathy
also means they’ll have plenty of ugly baggage that will get out
someday. As she says: “You can’t just keep looking for enemies to attack and pointing the finger. Eventually, you have to stand up for something.”
