Ok but at the same time can we fn understand that instilling pride at a young age in your own work and having a huge payoff will create far more potential for an individual than being handed an effortless pass from the community in the realm of ‘this makes me feel better as a person’

Hey not to be That Person but there’s an irrevocable difference between a child working for something that they want as opposed to something that they need. He’s not selling pumpkins to buy a gaming console or for some first edition collectable he really wants. He’s selling pumpkins for a service dog that he needs for his chronic illness. Teaching children to have “pride” in working for something that should be a right enforces the norm that we aren’t inherently deserving of things that can be life saving. A child selling pumpkins to buy something for himself teaches pride and hard work. A child selling pumpkins to be able to afford a potentially life saving service is 1) a tragedy, and 2) teaching children that in order to deserve something they need, then they must be exploited in order to get it in a system that doesn’t care for them. But go off, I guess.

This.
